Good sleep Getting a good night's sleep is vital for our health and wellbeing and yet according to the Sleep Council, only one in ten of us say that they always get a good night's sleep, while one in five suffer from a lack of sleep.

However, if you don't get a good night's sleep it can lead to a number of health problems including tension, stress, headaches and aching muscles. We all know what it is like when you have not had a great night's sleep but if you continue to sleep badly it can make you depressed and emotionally unstable, which can add extra stress to your daily life. While it is not necessary harmful, you only have to look at new parents to prove that a lack of sleep does make life extra difficult.

So how can you make sure you get a good night's sleep?
The first thing to do is get a good bed. If your bed is uncomfortable you will suffer from bad sleep. In fact Dr Chris Idzikowski has done research which shows that if you have an uncomfortable bed you get as much as one hour's less sleep a night than you would if you had comfortable bed. If you get a good bed you will instantly improve sleep quality.

The room you sleep in is also vital for creating a relaxing atmosphere in order to sleep well. The room should be neither too hot nor too cold and should just be used for sleeping so ditch the entertainment systems in the bedroom.

It is also really important to get into a proper sleep routine as your body can then adjust and get ready for bed each night. We all have a body clock so you need to train that to suit your bed times. Getting exercise is also really helpful and will ensure you will get a proper night's sleep.
